Today, the Municipality of Stara Zagora signed an agreement with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works to implement the project “Development of New Economic Activities and Attraction of Investment in Zagore – Elenino Industrial Zone” under procedure BG16FFPR003-4.005, “Support for Industrial and Logistics Parks and Zones with a Focus on Clean Energy Use”, within the Development of the Regions Programme 2021–2027.
The project has an implementation period of 24 months and falls under the “Just Transition” priority. It aims to accelerate the region’s economic transformation and create favourable conditions for attracting strategic investors.
The project provides for the development of new electricity infrastructure, including the design, construction and commissioning of a 110/20 kV electrical substation, the construction of connections to the existing 110 kV “Phoenix” overhead power line with a total length of 7.150 km, and connecting infrastructure forming part of the national electricity transmission network.
It also envisages the development of internal infrastructure and connections to external networks, including telecommunications connectivity, renewable energy installations, charging infrastructure and a digital environment. These improvements will enhance the industrial zone’s appeal and facilitate the implementation of investors’ projects.
The total value of the planned infrastructure investment is EUR 16,415,052 (BGN 32,105,051.13). The Municipality of Stara Zagora is the designated beneficiary, working in partnership with Electricity System Operator EAD (ESO), with Industrial Zone Zagore AD participating as an associated partner.
The Industrial Zone Zagore industrial park in the village of Elenino is being developed as a strategic industrial site to the south of Stara Zagora, with direct access to the national road network and close proximity to the Trakia motorway. The zone is intended to provide modern infrastructure and investment-ready plots for high-tech and energy-intensive manufacturing.
Agreements have already been signed with four investors in the industrial park, representing planned investments of more than EUR 225 million and the potential to create over 1,100 new jobs. Negotiations are also underway with three additional investors.
By signing the agreement, the Municipality of Stara Zagora has taken another important step towards building a sustainable, modern and competitive industrial environment that will support long-term economic development and create new employment opportunities in the region.
