The Municipality of Stara Zagora, represented by its Department of Investments, Energy Efficiency and Green Transition, took part in the final transnational capacity-building and cooperation event under the GREENSMARTMED project. The event brought together representatives of the public sector, businesses, the research community and organisations from various European countries working in sustainable development and the green transition.
A key focus of the municipality’s participation was the presentation of the TEXAD project, which promotes the sustainable management, separate collection, reuse and recovery of textile waste as part of the transition to a circular economy. The project highlights the need for new approaches to reducing textile waste and developing sustainable solutions for reusing resources.
Rositsa Raykova, Head of the Department of Investments, Energy Efficiency and Green Transition at the Municipality of Stara Zagora, presented TEXAD in an engaging and interactive way, highlighting good practices, partnership opportunities and the potential of local policies to support sustainable textile management. The presentation generated considerable interest and received positive feedback from participants across Europe, who praised its practical focus and the relevance of textile waste reduction and sustainable consumption.
The Municipality of Stara Zagora’s participation in such international initiatives reinforces the local administration’s active role in developing policies for the green transition, innovation and sustainable resource management, with particular emphasis on sectors with a substantial environmental impact, such as textiles.
