A stakeholder working meeting was held as part of the Municipality of Stara Zagora’s participation in the international project No. 02C0582 TEXAD, “Enhancing Circularity Solutions for Textile Waste in European Municipalities”, funded under the Interreg Europe Programme 2021–2027. The meeting formed part of preparations to update the textile waste section of the municipality’s Waste Management Programme.
The meeting featured good practices and solutions identified during the TEXAD interregional visit to Rzeszów, Poland. Participants discussed opportunities to adapt and apply these approaches in Stara Zagora.
The discussion focused on measures and activities to be included in the updated Waste Management Programme. Particular attention was given to preventing textile waste, encouraging reuse and repair, extending the lifespan of textile products, and actively involving residents and local businesses.
One of the ideas discussed was the establishment of a mobile circular textile workshop as a pilot initiative. The workshop would offer clothing repairs, creative upcycling and reuse of textile products, sorting and preparation for reuse, and practical training. The model aims not only to provide services but also to help residents develop practical skills and adopt more sustainable consumption habits.
The presentation of good practices from Rzeszów and their potential application in Stara Zagora aims to support the development of specific, feasible measures for the updated programme. The results of the pilot action, together with subsequent monitoring of public participation, repairs, reuse and business engagement, are expected to provide a basis for assessing whether the model could become a permanent municipal measure.
The working meeting was attended by representatives of the Municipality of Stara Zagora, Trakia University, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in Stara Zagora, and Sorico EOOD.
The meeting provided an opportunity for local government, institutions, academia and businesses to exchange experience and expert views. Participants also discussed specific proposals for measures and activities to be incorporated into the Municipality of Stara Zagora’s updated Waste Management Programme.
