The Ministry of Regional Development has announced that BGN 149 million will be allocated to projects aimed at developing industrial and logistics parks in the regions of Stara Zagora, Kyustendil, and Pernik. The funding comes under the “Regional Development” program and is part of the “just transition” initiative for communities traditionally reliant on energy sectors.
The maximum grant amount for project proposals in Stara Zagora is up to BGN 40 million, while for Pernik and Kyustendil, funding can reach the maximum available budget, with no minimum requirement.
What the grants can be used for:
Infrastructure development: Construction of new or renovation of existing technical infrastructure such as water supply, sewage, electricity and gas networks, internal infrastructure for renewable energy production, and energy storage capacity.
Digitalization and smart solutions: Funding can be used to enhance digital connectivity within industrial parks, including broadband internet, cybersecurity, AI-based sensors, and video analytics for real-time monitoring of transport and logistics. Projects may also implement solutions for energy and water efficiency, smart lighting, and other intelligent systems.
Buildings and facilities: Grants can support construction or renovation of production and administrative buildings, along with associated infrastructure. Projects may include digitalization measures, accessibility improvements, landscaping, recreation areas, bike lanes, parking for bicycles and cars, charging stations, and energy-efficient lighting.
Research and advanced technology: Eligible investments include building laboratories, developing high-tech solutions, equipment and technologies for production, use, and storage of clean energy, as well as energy storage technologies, heat pumps, renewable fuels, electrolyzers, and fuel cells.
Carbon and energy efficiency technologies: The funding can also support carbon capture, utilization, and storage solutions, and energy efficiency technologies related to energy systems.
Program goals:
The initiative aims to expand or develop industrial zones with a focus on clean technologies in coal-affected areas, build independent industrial parks with renewable energy capacities for businesses, and establish technology hubs and other innovation-driven infrastructure.
