On March 6, 2025, a meeting with stakeholders on the TEXAD project, funded under the Interreg Europe program, was held in Stara Zagora. The main emphasis was placed on circular solutions for textile waste and the implementation of innovative models and good practices borrowed from leading European regions such as the city of Prato, Italy.
During the discussion, successful examples of sustainable management of the textile sector were presented. Participants learned about effective approaches to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals in textile production, innovative methods for mechanical recycling of textile fibers, and the use of textile archives that support the creation of new and sustainable materials. Ms. Raykova shared her observations on the integration of the circular economy in the industry - from the reuse of resources to the effective management of water waste. One of the most significant examples demonstrated how purified water can be returned to textile production, reducing dependence on new water sources and improving the ecological footprint of the sector.
The meeting on March 6 was also attended by representatives of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Stara Zagora, Natalia AD, Eurotex EOOD and the Municipality of Stara Zagora, who actively discussed the opportunities for applying what was learned in the local context and the upcoming initiatives of the municipality. Stara Zagora continues to work to develop sustainable practices, aiming to gradually introduce innovative solutions and create conditions for the implementation of the circular economy in the textile sector.
